Assessors
Town Assessor & Board of Assessors
Vacant, Principal Assessor
Notice
The Board of Assessors has hired a consultant to inspect properties beginning the weekend of March 25, 2023. The Department of Revenue requires that communities re-inspect all property at least every nine years. It is a critical element in maintaining the most current property database, and helps ensure that all taxpayers are assessed fairly, and pay their fair share of the property tax burden.
General Responsibilities and Duties
The Assessors’ Office maintains records of motor vehicle excise tax files. Applications for deferrals, exemptions and abatement requests for real property, personal property, and motor vehicle excise taxes can be obtained from and should be filed with the Assessors’ Office on a timely basis.
The Board of Assessors is a three member, elected Board, which is required by Massachusetts law to list and value all real and personal property. The Assessors’ primary responsibility is to find the “full and fair cash value” of all real and personal property, so that everyone pays their fair share of taxes.
Town of Southampton Assessor Tax Maps
Tax maps are used by the Assessor’s office to locate and provide essential land area information about every real property in their municipality. The Town of Southampton does not make any warranty, expressed or implied, nor assume any responsibility or legal liability for the accuracy of these maps. This data does not take the place of a professional survey and has no legal bearing on the parcel configurations, such as the true shape, size, location, or property lines.
In the next few months, a representative from the Assessor’s office will be out to inspect properties that have pulled building permits in the past year and a half. Please call the Assessor’s office at 413-527-4741 to set up an appointment. Thank you!
